THE BEAUTY OF A DEAD LANGUAGE – PHOTOGRAPHY
(Alkali bacterium indicireducens sp. blue mould and dead ice)
This project ‘The Beauty of a Dead Language’ initiates from my interest in biology and understanding of the molecular process in the creation of indigo, a biological colour. The material, light and my body perform together as part of a meditative and conscious process.
Building layer upon layer, repetitive and meditative, unwearyingly waiting for the material to respond. Light and materials in sensual conjunction, with my naked body. The sound of the material, physical moments bring memory, a transformation of the sensitive molecular frequencies. A metabolic process of change giving life and colour experiences.
I have dyed using a bio-vat, an organic process that uses natural indigo, microorganisms and antioxidants that create reduction by fermentation.
Material: Photo and prints: Natural Indigo biological vat, silk, metal tread and silk tread, in a performance with my naked body.
