Textile Museum in Borås bought two of my works to show in their new permanent sustainability exhibition “REEBOAT FASHION ” which opens Saturday, May 25. “REBOOT FAHION” is about how we can approach a circular textile future with new production methods, and how you as an individual can be involved and influenced!
“Everything has its secret. The Sacred Room of Blue” is an eco-poetic film essay about the connection between the fermentation processes of powerful plants of woad and indigo, and our collective memory of the colour blue, water and gratitude, care and the connection and communication we have with microbes in a deeper sense.
“The Goddess of Water and Ice” is another work and one of several creations that I made and displayed in connection with being invited as a VIP for the Natural Dyeing and Organic Fiber Forum in Taiwan 2014. The question I asked was –How much do we need to dye?
How do we view color and textile dyeing?
How much do we need to dye in the future?
We need to create awareness and knowledge about the environmental impact from the production of textile dyes we have today. Synthetic Indigo – blue launched results in 1897 as the “king” of natural dyes. Synthetic Indigo was synthesised from the toxic coal tar.
I have been artistically researching with scientific methods about plants, their colors and textile dyes and the meaning of dyeing for over 20 years.
I was born in Borås with several generations in the textile industry and who have walked and lived with the Viskan – a river which today is Sweden’s most environmentally damaged with heavy metals lying deep in the sediment.
That my work takes a place at the Textile Museum is also a tribute to my ancestors – my grandmother and great-grandmother, who worked along the little river Viskan and to my grandfather who worked in the textile industry.
With me my deep work in the environmental and human rights, I will continue my work for future generations.
